    Introduction
    Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. Serological testing plays an important role in syphilis screening and diagnosis.
    Syphilis antibody tests can be broadly divided into treponemal and nontreponemal tests. Treponemal tests detect antibodies directed against T. pallidum-specific antigens, while nontreponemal tests detect antibodies to lipoidal antigens associated with infection.
    Antonmed Syphilis (TP) Ab Test Strip belongs to the treponemal testing category. It is designed to qualitatively detect antibodies to Treponema pallidum in the specified human specimen.
    A reactive result indicates that antibodies to T. pallidum have been detected by the test. Because treponemal antibodies can remain reactive after treatment, a reactive treponemal test alone cannot determine whether an infection is currently active or was previously treated. Additional testing and clinical assessment may be required.
     
    Testing Procedure
    The testing procedure may vary according to the validated Antonmed product configuration. Users should always follow the product's Instructions for Use.
    1. Prepare the Test
    Remove the Syphilis (TP) Ab Test Strip from its sealed pouch immediately before testing. Allow the test and specimen to reach the required testing conditions specified in the IFU.
    2. Prepare the Specimen
    Collect the specified human specimen according to the product instructions. The applicable specimen type should be confirmed from the Antonmed product documentation before use.
    3. Apply the Specimen
    Apply the specified amount of specimen to the test strip according to the instructions. Avoid exceeding the marked immersion limit where applicable.
    4. Allow the Test to Develop
    Place the strip on a clean, level surface and wait for the specified reaction time.
    5. Interpret the Result
    Read the control and test lines within the specified result-reading window. Do not interpret results outside the validated reading time.
     
    Result Interpretation
    Reactive – TP Antibodies Detected
    A visible control line together with a visible test line indicates a reactive result according to the product's interpretation criteria. This means antibodies to Treponema pallidum have been detected.
    A reactive treponemal antibody result does not by itself establish active syphilis infection, because treponemal antibodies may remain detectable after previous infection and treatment. Further clinical assessment and appropriate additional testing may be required.
    Non-Reactive – TP Antibodies Not Detected
    A control line is visible while the test line is not visible.
    This indicates that antibodies to Treponema pallidum were not detected at the test's defined detection level at the time of testing.
    A non-reactive result does not necessarily exclude very early infection, and clinical circumstances should be considered when interpreting results.
    Invalid
    If the control line does not appear, the result is invalid. A new test should be performed using a new strip and the procedure should be followed carefully.
