What Does CT NG Stand For?
CT refers to Chlamydia trachomatis, the bacterium responsible for chlamydial infection.
NG refers to Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterium responsible for gonorrhea.
Although both are sexually transmitted bacterial infections, they are different organisms and require different clinical management. This makes differentiated CT and NG detection important when testing is performed.
Modern laboratory CT/NG assays are commonly designed to detect the two organisms simultaneously while reporting the results separately.
