Malaria Test Kits

Malaria test kits are medical devices used to quickly diagnose whether someone is infected with Plasmodium (the parasite that causes malaria). They are often referred to as rapid diagnostic tests or RDTs.

 

The core principle of malaria test kits is immunochromatography, which detects specific Plasmodium antigens (proteins) present in human blood.
HRP-2: Produced by Plasmodium falciparum.
pLDH: Produced by various Plasmodium species.

 

Pf test kits: Detect only antigens specific to Plasmodium falciparum (usually HRP-2). This is the most common and deadliest type of malaria.
Pv test kits: Detect only antigens specific to Plasmodium vivax.
Mixed test kits: The most common type. Can distinguish between falciparum and non-falciparum malaria.
Usually, there are two test lines: one for Pf (falciparum malaria) and the other for pan-malaria (all types).
If only the"pan-malaria"line appears, it indicates infection with non-falciparum malaria parasites (such as Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale, etc.).
